When hate speech is detected in a message it is replaced with a heart regardless of whether the profanity filter is enabled.
Note however that the hate speech filter is rudimentary compared to the full profanity filter, so to completely avoid slurs enabling the profanity filter is recommended. For more information please refer to this article: Profanity filters
