Voice chat allows you to speak to other players with a connected microphone. This article suggests common troubleshooting steps if other players cannot hear you over voice chat.
Push-to-Talk
Unturned only supports push-to-talk. While the assigned keybind is held, a microphone icon should be visible in the middle-left of your screen. You can change this keybind from the Controls menu, by navigating to the Communication section and changing the Voice Chat keybind.
Voice Chat Options
There are several in-game options for adjusting your voice chat settings, available from the Options and Audio menus.
- Enable Inbound Voice Chat – allows you to hear other players when enabled.
- Enable Outbound Voice Chat – allows your microphone to record and transmit your voice when enabled.
- Keep Microphone Ready – avoid hitches when starting/stopping push-to-talk by muting your microphone, rather than stopping entirely.
- Show Outbound Voice Hint – shows a muted microphone icon under the text chat when Outbound Voice Chat is disabled.
- Voice Chat Volume – a multiplier on the playback of other players' voices. This is applied after
- peak normalization, so it cannot be made louder than 100%.
Configuring Steam Voice
Unturned uses Steam Voice. If your microphone is not being detected, we recommend checking your configured voice settings for Steam.
- Open Steam.
- From the top-left, click Steam and then Settings.
- Select the Voice tab.
- Choose your desired Input Device (microphone), and use the Microphone Test feature.
If you cannot hear yourself when performing a Microphone Test, you may need to look up troubleshooting tips for your operating system (e.g., Windows, macOS) or specific microphone.
Muting Players
Players can be muted while in the same multiplayer server as them.
