Players can access alternative versions of the game, including unstable test builds and older versions. Though by default, players are on the Public Default Version.
To view the available game versions and switch between them:
- Right-click Unturned in your Steam Library
- Click Properties
- Navigate to Game Versions & Betas
- Select an option from the list
Understand that switching game versions requires Steam to download that version of the game instead of the Default Public Version. Alternative versions of the game may not perform as expected. When filing a bug report, please only do so for the latest version(s) of the game!
Preview branch
By opting into the Preview branch, players can playtest upcoming updates. Changes in the preview branch can be found here: Preview branch.
Although we do our best to maintain backwards compatibility, the preview branch is unstable and may contain breaking changes. You should create a backup of any save files important to you prior to loading them on the preview branch.

unity-2020
This is the final version (v3.23.11.1) of the game using Unity 2020. You can opt into this branch for backwards compatibility with older mods.
32bit-windows
This is the final version (v3.22.14.2) of the game that supports multiplayer for 32-bit Windows PCs. If you are still using a 32-bit Windows PC, you can opt into this older version of the game and play multiplayer on any dedicated servers also running on this version.
unity-2019
This is the final version (v3.22.10.1) of the game using Unity 2019. You can opt into this branch for backwards compatibility with older mods.
unity-2018
This is the final version (v3.20.13.2) of the game using Unity 2018. You can opt into this branch for backwards compatibility with older mods.
unity-2017.4
This is the final version (v3.19.15.0) of the game using Unity 2017. You can opt into this branch for backwards compatibility with older mods.
unity-5.5
This is the final version (v3.27.2.1) of the game using Unity 5. You can opt into this branch for backwards compatibility with incredibly old mods. (Although this branch's version number appears larger than other branches, this is just due to a change in our versioning scheme between Unity 5 and Unity 2017.)
classic
v2.2.5 was the last update in Unturned's 2.x era, following it's original Steam Early Access launch in 2014!
antique
v1.1 was the last update in Unturned's browser-based era, when the game was only available on our Smartly Dressed Games website and before 2.x began development.
BattlEye on older game versions?
Older game versions – notably, classic and antique – do not include the BattlEye Anti-Cheat. This means attempting to launch the game with BattlEye enabled will result in an expected error message of "Missing game executable" as Steam cannot find the Unturned_BE.exe file
To play on those older game versions, you must launch without BattlEye Anti-Cheat enabled. You can configure this from the game's launch options, or manually run Unturned.exe from the game directory instead.
How do I get back to the current Default Public Version?
- Right-click Unturned in your Steam Library
- Click Properties
- Navigate to Game Versions & Betas
- Select the "Default Public Version" option
Can servers be hosted using other game versions?
Yes. When downloading the dedicated server through SteamCMD, specify the branch with the -beta parameter. For example, to download the preview branch:
app_update 1110390 -beta previewIf you're running a server through your Steam Library directly (rather than SteamCMD), you can simply changed the Unturned Dedicated Server app's version like you would for Unturned:
