There have been some reports of problems when the game is running at 1000+ FPS on the loading screens or main menu. Usually Unturned is CPU-bottlenecked in-game, whereas in these simple scenes the game is GPU-bottlenecked running at the highest FPS possible. To prevent this you can either enable Vertical Synchronization (VSync) or Limit Framerate:
- Open the Unturned main menu
- Click Configuration
- Click Display
- Either enable the VSync checkbox or the Limit Framerate checkbox
VSync locks the FPS to your monitor's refresh rate and prevents screen tearing. For faster input responsiveness some players find it preferable to disable VSync and instead enable Limit Framerate with a Max Framerate higher than their monitor's refresh rate e.g., 500.
What if I can't reach the main menu?
If something is going wrong with high FPS on the startup loading screen you can enable the limit framerate launch option:
- Right-click Unturned in your Steam Library
- Select Properties... to open the General tab
- Find the Launch Options field
- Type "-FrameRateLimit=500" without quotes
